Webinar : Electrified Tribotesting - A New Frontier in EV Lubricant Development

Date: Friday 17 October
Time: 2am NZDT | 12 minight AEDT | 9pm AWST (Thurs 16th)

The transition to electric powertrains has introduced a new set of tribological challenges for lubricants, primarily due to the unique combination of high mechanical stresses and stray electrical currents at contact interfaces. Conventional tribotesting methods are inherently limited in their capacity to replicate and assess these coupled tribo-electrical phenomena, thus hampering the precise formulation and validation of EV-specific lubricants.

This webinar details an instrumented approach to electrified trbotesting, leveraging the UMT TriboLab modular benchtop tribometer with integrated electrical measurement capabilities. By synthesising key findings from published research, industry case studies, and our own in-house studies, we present a comprehensive demonstration of the tribological response of various lubricants under controlled electrical potentials during sliding contact. The data presented collectively demonstrates that the presence of electrical current at the interface profoundly influences coefficient of friction, electrical contact resistance, and wear morphology. This webinar will therefore serve to illustrate how a single, adaptable testing platform can provide critical data needed to advance the development and screening of next-generation electric and hybrid drivetrain fluids.
